چکیده Background: This study assessed the relationship of perfectionism with body image in individuals demanding cosmetic dental restorations and the mediating role of psychological inflexibility in this respect. While perfectionism has been extensively studied in the context of cosmetic medical procedures globally, limited research has explored this phenomenon in Iran, particularly among individuals seeking cosmetic dental restorations. This study aims to bridge this gap by focusing on the Iranian population and comparing its findings with global data. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 195 individuals (Mage=31.71; SD=9.71) demanding cosmetic dental restorations with no indication for such treatments. A battery of questionnaires including demographic information, perfectionism, body image concern, body image psychological inflexibility, and cognitive fusion were used for data collection. Data were analyzed using, independent t-tests, Pearson’s correlation, and Sobel tests (alpha=0.001). Results: Perfectionism had a mild (r=0.443) significant correlation with body image concern, and a strong (r=0.610) significant correlation with body image psychological inflexibility. Psychological inflexibility and cognitive fusion significantly mediated the relationship between perfectionism and body image concern. Conclusion: Patients demanding cosmetic procedures had high levels of perfectionism, cognitive fusion, moderate body image concern and psychological inflexibility. Thus, they may not be completely satisfied even with an ideal treatment result. Considering these findings, psychological screening tools could be beneficial for identifying individuals with high perfectionism and psychological inflexibility before cosmetic dental procedures. Dentists and psychologists may work collaboratively to manage unrealistic expectations and improve patient satisfaction.
