The performance analysis and design of an innovative MIMO antenna system in Eagle’s head-shaped patch were presented in this paper to address the requirements of contemporary wireless applications. The patch shape and novel semi-pistol shaped stub were used to provide UWB antenna and overcome some of the substrate’s technical restrictions in the unit cell structure. This antenna operates in a wide impedance bandwidth of the 21.04 GHz UWB spectrum, which covers the frequencies of 2.96 to greater than 24 GHz. The overall surface dimensions of the unit cell antenna is 18 × 15.5 mm2 which has been printed on inexpensive substrate of FR4. A dual port MIMO system with a whole size of 34 × 18 mm2 is then constructed using the compact unit cell monopole antenna. The low-profile configuration of the proposed dual port MIMO antenna includes two symmetrical unit cell antennas connected by a rectangle-shaped isolation structure in the ground layer. The obtained results of prototype antenna are confirmed that the offered MIMO antenna has good diversity metrics owing to providing low values of 0.29 bits/s/Hz in channel capacity losses, envelope correlation coefficient by far-field radiation less than 0.0026, conventional mean effective gain (MEG ratio = 0, MEG ≤ 0.5), diversity gain of fewer than 9.98 dB and low mutual coupling result. The MIMO antenna provides optimal performance with a maximal gain of 7.01 dBi and great operating efficiency due to the innovative structure that makes the system an attractive alternative for next generation communication technologies.
