چکیده Iranian territory is vast with 1,648,000 km2, crossing three major zoogeographic regions: Palearctic, Saharan-Arabian, and Oriental and has diverse habitats and faunas. In the past two hundred and fifty years, many researchers came to Iran to study the eastern lands; in the past two decades, Iranian scientists have added to our knowledge about amphibians, which constitute the least diverse Class of vertebrates in Iran, yet the most diverse one of sub-endemic and endemic species. Newts, salamanders, toads, and frogs all are represented in Iran. This chapter characterizes Iran’s 23 species, grouped into 14 genera, and seven families of amphibians and presents the standard names.
