چکیده Software defined-network (SDN) is a transformative technology that is developing daily and decouples network control from data forwarding, offering centralized management, flexibility, and programmability. For researchers, SDN is pivotal in addressing challenges like load balancing, optimized controller placement, and cost efficiency. Its ability to adapt dynamically to network demands fosters innovation in scalable and efficient network architectures, making it a cornerstone for advancing modern networking solutions. The problem solving our problem is to determine the number and location of the controller’s placement in the different SDN topology, how many control numbers we need, and how we put them in the right places. The research identifies key challenges, including high installation costs, control traffic imbalance, and increased latency due to suboptimal controller placement. These challenges emphasize the need for innovative solutions that ensure load balancing while optimizing cost and network stability. In this thesis research, we developed a system model and mathematically formulated our objectives, employing clustering techniques and a knapsack-based algorithm to strategically place controllers. This approach achieved cost efficiency and load balancing while minimizing control packet latency and link utilization. We validated our algorithm using various network datasets and topologies, demonstrating its effectiveness in terms of cost optimization and load balancing control packets in SDN. The results highlight the success of our methodology in addressing key challenges in controller placement for SDN.
