Though being resided during various time periods including Paleolithic, Mesolithic, and Neolithic to recent ages, less is known about heritage tourism potentials of the Iranian Kurdistān Province. Heritage tourism encompasses cultural, historic and natural resources. The significant cultural heritages of Kurdistān province include complete music, rich in rhythms and various types of instruments performed in Kurdish Maqām and several modes. The Kurdish Dance or Halparke is of high interest in Kurdistān province and all Kurdish society, performing in most of the ceremonies, New Year celebrations that can attract the attention of many tourists. Another element of cultural heritage is handcrafting such as woodturning, needlework, traditional jewelry-making, pottery, kilim, - jājim- and carpet weaving. Amongst the historic heritage, several archaeological sites and museums such as Ziviyeh and Malāmcheh hills, Karaftū Cave, Museums of Sanandaj and Kurds, Tangīvar relief and inscription are referred all can be regarded as the excellent indications toward the uncovering of ancient life in this area. In terms of natural resources, it is among the best destinations in the countries with spectacular and scenic temperate forests in Bāneh and Mariwān, high peaks, and relatively mild climate during summer. In addition, there are lots of birds, plants and animal species that are native to the Kurdistān Province and can annually attract lots of ecotourists.
