Mercury is one of the bio-accumulative toxic heavy metals even at very low concentration; mercury can cause damage to the human health and environment. Adsorption method has high efficiency and low cost for removal of heavy metals from water. In the recent years, the researchers make attention to the use of cheap adsorbent and wastes from industrial and agricultural activities. In this work, low cost agricultural waste, straw of wheat was used for removal from water. Effects of the operating conditions such as mercury concentration and time were investigated. The results showed that adsorption raised by increasing mercury concentration. This shows the high capacity of straw of wheat for mercury adsorption. The Freundlich adsorption isotherm models fitted closer to the experimental data. The kinetic studies showed that straw of wheat adsorbent can reach equilibrium quickly in less than 1 min. The kinetic data fitted pseudo second order model. The high adsorption, kinetic, and low cost show that straw of wheat is a precious adsorbent.
