Literature is not about imagining alternative worlds; it is about making and inhabiting them. Thus, creative writing is a way of leading a creative life. Literature, like other arts, is born from the distance, or gap, between reality and dream. Great works of art are either prescient or universal, or both. They are genuine attempts at idealizing the real and realizing the ideal.
