Landslides cause damage to property and unfortunately pose a threat even to human lives. Good landslide susceptibility, hazard, and risk models could help mitigate or even avoid the unwanted consequences resulted from such hill slope mass movements. The Zab basin is prone to landslides because of the climate conditions, geologic, geomorphologic characteristics of the region and anthropogenic activity. For the purpose of landslide susceptibility assessment in this study area, we used Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) coupling with GIS and spatial data such as slope, aspect, and distance to road, distance to drainage, land use and land cover, geological factors (distance to fault, lithology), geomorphologic characteristics and climatic condition of region. We conclude that the South of area more susceptible to landslide. Finally, the results showed that the AHP method gave a more realistic picture of the actual distribution of landslide susceptibility.
