Deserts include valuable reserves of plants. This part of ecosystem is adaptable with various ecological conditions of ecosystem and can be used in de-desertification plans. Thus, conserving native suitable species is of high importance in reclamation of degraded rangelands of arid environments. To do this, first of all it is necessary to collect and define suitable species of desert lands. In this, the next stage is developing an understanding of the ecological characteristics of species. Smirnovia iranica, a native and rare species from Fabaceae family, has considerable adoptability for desert conditions. This species, was collected for the first time from Rig Boland sand dunes in Kashan (a region with arid climate in the center of Iran). This study focused on some properties of the above mentioned species such as botanical characteristics, reproduction, phenology, rooting, chemical composition (amount of protein, ash, fiber), and cover percentage. Soilvariables of S. iranica habitat in the region of Rig Boland strip in Kashan were also investigated.
