چکیده	Jahgin Dam will be the first large RCC (Roller Compacted Concrete) dam to be completed in Iran. It is located in the southern part of the Country where temperatures exceed 50 C during the summer. The conditions are thus not ideal for the construction of a concrete dam. As this was the first RCC dam in Iran, an extensive trial mix program was conducted. Prior to the start of this program as search was made for potential supplementary cementing materials that could be used in the RCC. Two natural pozzolans were found in Southern Iran together with an air-cooled blast-furnace slag and a copper slag. In addition it was ascertained that a low-lime fly ash from India was being imported into the country. As well as these supplementary cementing materials, two different local Portland cements, both of which contained a small percentage of natural pozzolans, were studied. The trial mix program was undertaken in two stages, the performance of the potential cementitious materials was assessed. At the end of this stage, the two most probable sets of cementitious materials were chosen and these were studied in more detail in the second Stage of the program. The chosen mixtures were then investigated in a full-scale trial.
