The Shahid Rajaee (Tajan) dam is located in a narrow gorge through different rock formation of a wide anticline on the Tajan river, approximately 200 km Northeast of Tehran. This is a 138 m high double curvature concrete arch dam, with a crest length of 427 m. The thickness is varying from 27 m at the base to 7 m at the crest. The dam was constructed between 1992 and 1997. By taking into account the typical site conditions, an extensive monitoring instruments has been designed and installed to follow closely the dam behaviour during construction, First impounding and operation period. The paper presents a detailed behaviour of Shahid Rajaee dam during first four years of impounding which were evaluated on the basis of collected data from the monitoring instruments and observations performed during site inspection.
