The purpose of this study was to compare dependency on vision and proprioception in gymnastic, wrestling and soccer. Twenty eight athletes (8 gymnasts, age = 18.2 ± .75 yrs, height=178.12 ± 3.79 cm, and weight = 70.12±4.94 kg; 10 wrestlers, age = 21.7 ± 0.7 yrs, height = 177.7 ± 3.6 cm, and weight = 73.9 ± 6.0 kg; and 10 soccer players, age = 21.7 ± 0.8 yrs, height = 178.0 ± 3.7 cm, and weight = 73.5 ± 5.9 kg) volunteered to participate in this study. Subjects performed walking on balance beam in 4 conditions: 1- opened eyes (control), 2- closed eyes, 3- opened eyes with operated vibration, and 4- closed eyes with operated vibration. Vibration (100HZ) was used to disturb of proprioception. Vibration operated on dominant leg muscle (gastrocnemius). One way ANOVA Test showed there was significant difference among three groups in two conditions: 1-closed eyes (P≤0.05), 2-closed eyes with operated vibration (P≤0.05). Also with used of post-hoc (scheffe) test determined that gymnastic players had better performance than wrestling and soccer players while there was no significant difference in performance of wrestling and soccer players. Finally, dependency on vision and proprioception differs in different sports and any sports need to specific sensory inputs for optimum performance.
