چکیده	Planning for transport is closely related to land-use planning and urban development. Urban planning can create opportunities to use viable alternatives to the private car. Conversely, it can encourage greater car reliance. So careful urban planning increases transport advantages and reduces its environmental, social, and economic disadvantages; and without land- planning and transport planning integration, achieving transport sustainability is impossible. A new methodological framework was developed in this study, which aimed to assess transport sustainability currently and in the future using composite transport sustainability index. Selected sustainability indicators were quantified based on land- use/transport .interaction model and integrated into a single index Results were compared for 2006 and 2030 in Melbourne as a case study, to evaluate progress towards sustainability in the future. The framework developed in this study provides a promising basis for decision-making to support .sustainable land-use planning in urban areas
