The effect of the blast loading on structures is one of the most important topics that many researchers have recently attended on. Since the structure usually experience inelastic behavior when subjected to a blast loading, nonlinear analysis of structures against explosion is unavoidable. Since the use of nonlinear dynamic analysis of structures subjected to the blast loading is not justified in many cases because of its inherent complexity, the lack of corresponding expertise in the average design office, excessive computing times, and difficulties in interpreting results; in this research, an efficient and simple method is developed for nonlinear analysis and design of the structure subjected to this type of loading. For this purpose, some relations and graphs are derived to simulate inelastic behavior of the steel frames based on the responses resulting from the pushover method by modeling many different steel frames subjected to various blast loads. In order to demonstrate accuracy of the proposed method, nonlinear analysis of three different structures is performed using the proposed method and their results are compared to those of the nonlinear dynamic analysis. Results indicate that the proposed method can approximate nonlinear dynamic response of the structure under blast loading with acceptable accuracy without the intensive computational and modeling effort of the dynamic analysis.
