Efficient use of energy is one of the principal requirements of sustainable production. In this study energy and economical analyses of fruit fridges in Mashhad province of Iran were done. In addition, the study aimed to calculate the energy productivity and specific energy for fruit fridges; moreover, the shares of direct, indirect, renewable and nonrenewable energy forms were investigated. Data used in this study were obtained from 15 fruit fridges in Mashhad province, Iran. The results revealed that, the total energy of 1486.5 MJ/ton capacity was consumed for fruit fridges from which about 60.8% was consumed by electricity energy and 28% was consumed by fuel. Also the shares of equipment and labor energy was found to be 10.7% and 0.5%, respectively. The results of economical analysis showed that, total cost of processing during the period was about 69.4 $/ton, from which 64.9% was due to land and building rent and 17.6% was due to fuel and electricity.
