چکیده Abstract In this paper, the effect of the starting time of concrete pouring on the distribution of heat and the thermal cracks developed on the RCC dam have been studied using finite element software and its special macro subroutine and by changing the beginning time of concrete pouring, i.e., changing the initial and boundary conditions and incorporating the daily variations of the temperature of environment. Zhaveh RCC Dam seems to be a good selection for studying the effect of the beginning time of concrete pouring on the thermal response of the dam considering the climate of Sanandaj and relatively high temperature difference. In view of the annual variations of temperature at Zhave Dam Region, the best time to begin concrete pouring is when minimum strains develop. Based on the results of volumetric crack analysis, the beginning of concrete pouring in autumn and winter causes the initial pouring temperature and maximum temperature near the foundation to be lower, while in spring and early summer, the maximum temperature exceeds the allowable limit near the foundation leading to the development of higher thermal stress and strain in the long term and possible development of thermal cracks all over the dam body, especially near the dam foundation.
