چکیده Construction of Jahgin Dam was successfully completed in January 2007 in southern Iran. The dam is located in an area of very high temperatures, where temperatures exceeds 50 C during the summer. One of the factors that have limited the development of RCC DAMS IN Iran has been the lack of low-lime fly ash in the country. Before the commencement of the trial mix program for Jahgin dam a search was made for potential supplementary cementing materials (locally available pozzolanz) so that the performance of these in an RCC could be compared with that of a low-lime fly ash that was being imported in to Iran from India. Four different pozzolans were located in Southern Iran; a natural pozzolan from Khash in the South-east of the country, a ground blast furnance slage from Isfahan, a ground copper slage from Kerman and a second natural pozzolan from Sirjan. As well as these supplementary cementing materials, two different local Portland cements were studied. The paper describes the properties of the materials and trial programme in detail under taken in two stages. During the first stage, the performance of the potential cementitious materials was assessed. At the end of this stage the two most probable sets of cementitious materials were chosen and these were studied in more detail in the second stage of the trial mix programme. The details of the full-scale trials are also included.
