چکیده The two important normal loading parameters in an arch dam are hydrostatic pressure and temperature. The displacements caused by the two are country. Direct comparison of the result of two geodetic surveys requires that the lake level as well as the temperature of the dam body should be the same for the two surveys which is not practically possible to achieve. Is the due to this reason that the displacements due to the difference in temperature and lake level is sometimes calculated using the curves obtained from the structural analysis of the dam. But, the use of deflection curves is justified only when the curves have been calibrated truly with the dam behaviour which is usually not the case. In the present paper, an approach is presented for the purpose of comparing the geodetic displacements of different surveys and hence predicting creep, if any, in the dam behaviour which is a major parameter for the evaluation of the safety of a dam. The procedure employs the displacement optioned by plumb lines for estimating the effect of lake level and temperature upon displacement. The versatility of the procedures presented in the paper has been demonstrated with the help of an example of a well instrumented 200 m high arch dam (Karun-1) in Iran
