چکیده The Jegin Dam is located about 60 km to the northeast of the Jask city in Hormozgan province in Iran. It is a 68 m Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) dam which was successfully completed in January 2009 across the Jegin River. By taking into account the typical site conditions and lack of experience with the behavior of RCC dams in Iran, enough and suitable monitoring instruments has been designed and installed to follow closely the behavior of first RCC dam during construction, first impounding and operation period. All the instrumentations, namely thermometer embedded in concrete, direct pendulums, inclinometer, strong motion sensor installed inside the dam body and galleries, extensometer, piezometer, uplift pressure gauge, and measuring weir installed in the abutments and foundation of the dam had been operated prior to impounding the reservoir. This paper presents a detailed evaluation of quantity and quality aspects of installed instruments as well as the behavior of Jegin dam during first three years of impounding which were evaluated on the basis of collected data from the monitoring instruments, observations performed during site inspection and results obtained from back analysis performed for this dam by finite element software. Results obtained from installed instrumentations and back analysis show good efficiency of instruments and normal and suitable behavior of dam.
