A lot of direct and indirect losses incurred by damage to lifeline systems during past earthquakes requires the development of methodologies for lifeline seismic risk assessment. A comprehensive and realistic methodology on the simulation of flow in lifeline networks has not been established so far. The present research seeks a methodology for the flow analysis by lifeline network systems under the damage situation after earthquakes. Present paper consists of three parts. In the first part, an approach is developed to find all possible paths of the flow between arbitrary sources and demand nodes. In the second part two probabilistic approaches are formulated for physical seismic damage analysis in the paths under three cases of seismic hazards. In the last part a real time approach for flow connectivity analysis of lifeline networks is developed by using the above two methods. Then a computer software has been developed for the proposed methodologies. As a case study, a network of an existing power supply system is analyzed taking account of wave propagation, liquefaction, landslide and fault rupture. Simulated results show rational outputs applicable to the risk assessment for lifeline networks.
