Abstract

Various plant derivatives, including essential oils, essences, and plant extracts, show good antibacterial properties. This study investigated the antibacterial properties of various plants, including extracts from Thyme, Lemon Beebrush, Oregano, Ziziphora, Mint, and Mentha asiatica. The extraction process used water, alcohol, and hydroalcoholic solvents at a 5 w/v ratio. The alcoholic extract of Mentha asiatica had the highest volume (226 mL), while its hydroalcoholic extract had the highest color and turbidity, lowest pH (2.5), and highest degree of brix (10.5 °Bx). FT-IR analysis showed that Mentha asiatica had suitable functional groups for its hydroalcoholic extract’s properties. The hydroalcoholic extract of Mentha asiatica had the highest free radical scavenging percentage (27.2%) and the strongest antibacterial properties against gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus and gram-negative Escherichia coli.
