Abstract

Two traditionally managed stands (in local term called Galajar) (3.9 and 2.7 ha in size) were selected to estimate the yield table of forage production from Havare-Khol village located in Zagros oak forest in west of Iran. In each selected stand prior pollarding operation, a full Callipering procedure and measuring the total height, trunk height, large and small crown diameter carried out for all trees exceeding 5 cm collar diameter (diameter over bark), following tree’s species name recording. During pollarding operation, tree’s crown divided in to three different sections from the top to the bottom and all associated branches and leaves of each section weighted separately using digital scale (wet and dry weight kg-1). In order to calculate the leaves – branch weight ratio, 1 tree from each diameter classes was selected as sample unit. The highest correlation coefficient between leaves total biomass and mean crown diameter in stand 1(Galajar 1), stand 2 (Galajar 2) and the studied Glajar (exclusive conventional owner) were 0.62, 0.68 and 0.66 respectively. Amongst the proposed models to estimate the total biomass of produced forage in each stand, the power function model based on mean crown diameter as independed variable was the best fit( R2=0.44). Therefore in present study, the yield table of forage production was calculated based on power function model.
