Abstract

In recent decades, "Transit-oriented development (TOD)" has developed as a new approach based on sustainable development. This approach aims to integrate land use and transportation planning to encourage people to live near transit and use it. It reduces the use of individual car and creates more safe, dynamic and friendly communities. This approach is mainly to restrain the pattern of sprawl settlements are being criticized as landscapes scorched by unthoughtful and social life damaged due to the isolations of larger lots and a car-based culture which may lead to disassociation from the reality of contact with other people. Considering this background and the existing pattern of urban sprawl in Iranian cities which is extending due to the wave of urban and rural migration, the city of Sanandaj has been selected as case study of the research to pursue some aspects of TOD regarding its mixed-use corridor type for Pasdaran Boulevard. To do this, a kind of descriptive-analytical method used regarding the results of field survey conducted in spring 2012. For strategies and prioritizing them, AHP as a decision-making method has been used regarding certain aims including Improvement of Quality of Life, Extending Public Transportation and Environmental Preservation. In this regard, pedestrian movement, access to public services and extending green spaces fall into the high-priority strategies for maximizing TOD potential and benefits to the boulevard.
