Regarding the DAAD announcement on supporting research activities, I am pleased to hold a workshop on Fluorescence in situ hybridization (commonly referred to by its acronym 'FISH') at the University of Kurdistan, along with two of my German colleagues. I used a new procedure for this technique at Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research (IPK), Germany to study evolutionary relationships between wheat wild relatives. This work was supported by a 3 month DAAD fellowship and the results were published in good international journals. At the moment, this technique is used by students at the University of Kurdistan. Participants at the intended workshop will have an opportunity to become familiar with the theory and practical aspects of FISH and its applications in the field of plant genetic resources. We would like to provide the attendees with the required material and further scientific support for FISH, hence, your help and support in this regard would be greatly appreciated.
