Recently we have undertaken a preliminary round of hybridization between 5 different Iranian bread wheat cultivars (as female parent) and Ae. triuncialis apecies. Some embryos were rescued. About 800 mature F1 seeds harvested which and chromosome counting using ice cold water as pretreatment on a sample of F1 seeds revealed the presence of 35 chromosome. It was revealed that embryo rescue is not necessary to obtain F1 hybrids. At present, some F1 seeds have been planted in the farm. Some of these F1 hybrids will be backcrossed with the pollen of their wheat parent and the other would be assessed for spontaneous rate of amphiploid formation.
