Abstract Radial Basis Function (RBF) methods are important tools for scattered data interpolation. When the underlying function is sufficiently smooth, RBF methods can produce exponential accuracy. But, if the underlying function has steep gradients or discontinuities the RBF method will produce solutions with severe oscillations. In this paper, we use rational RBF method to interpolate functions with steep gradients and discontinuities.
