Sulfoxides are a common functionality found in numerous pharmaceutically active compounds.Although there are many reported methods for the oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides. It is often noticed that sulfide oxidation is accompanied by several disadvantages such as long reaction times, inconvenient reaction conditions, expensive oxidants, undesired side reactions at other functionalities and low yields.zeolites provide defined poresize, thereby allowing selective reactions with molecules havingthe correct shape and size. Moreover these catalysts, being heterogenous, provide easy workup of the reactions. Besides, they are non-toxic, non-polluting and can be recycled.During the course of our studies on the development of new routes for the oxidation of organic compounds,we now report the selective oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides with H2O2 in the presence of HZSM5. In summary, the significant advantages of this procedure are: a) using the eco-friendly, cost-effective and commercially available of catalyst b) mild reaction conditions c) green aspects avoiding hazardous solvent, toxic catalyst and waste d) operational and experimental simplicity.
