Title Evolution of the Generated Four-Wave Mixing Signal in Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers
Type Presentation
Keywords Semiconductor optical amplifier - SOA length - Four-wave mixing - finite difference beam propagation method
Abstract We analyse the evolution of generated four-wave mixing (FWM) signal in semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs). To simulate the propagation characteristics of optical signals in SOA, we use the nonlinear propagation equation taking into account the gain spectrum dynamics, gain saturation which depends on carrier depletion, carrier heating, spectral hole-burning, group velocity dispersion, self-phase modulation and two photon absorption. Our simulation results illustrate the propagation characteristics of the generated FWM signal in SOA. The power, FWHM and peak shift of the generated FWM signal increases during the evolution in SOA’s waveguide.
