Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic significantly disrupted travel intentions and behaviour, prompting a reevaluation of existing theories and frameworks in the tourism field, but there is currently no comprehensive synthesis of the factors influencing travel intention before and during the pandemic. To close this research gap, this scoping review explores various factors affecting travel intention both before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, shedding light on the underlying theories and research topics as well as the geographical scope of research and the factors that constrain or facilitate tourist travel intention. By examining changes in travel intention triggered by the pandemic, the review deepens our understanding of the evolving relationship between global health emergencies and travel intention, enabling a more informed approach to managing and planning for the future of the tourism industry.
