The preparation of diphenylmethyl ethers is one of the popular methods in view of their low cost and high stability towards a variety of reagents. A wide variety of reagents are available for the preparation of diphenylmethyl ethers in the literature. We describe a novel and efficient method for the synthesis of diphenylmethyl ethers by the condensation of diphenylmathanol with alcohols in the presence of metaborosulfuric acid (MBSA) as a novel catalyst in CH2Cl2 at room temperature.
