Abstract

One of the significant domains which received special attention in recent educational research is technology integration. Modern technologies have created new modes of learning and teaching which are provided to obviate learning obstacles. Online learning environments are increasingly important is higher education as they allow learners and their instructors to enhance their face-to-face interaction. To answer the questionable concerns of the field, this particular study focused on conducting MOOCs in a foreign language context. There are different categories of online environments which are xMOOCs, cMOOCs, and flipped classrooms. The current study compared the effectiveness of cMOOC and flipped educational settings with that of conventional settings. Three conversation courses (Top Notch Series) were conducted in these three modes of learning. And semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight learners and one teacher. The results of quantitative data indicated that learners in the flipped classroom outperformed those in conventional and cMOOC classrooms. The results of qualitative data have shown that both cMOOC and flipped classrooms were well perceived by the learners.
