Distribution network operators are in charge to procure high-accuracy, reliable and cost-effective fault location. In this paper, to provide an optimal fault location strategy for a distribution network, a multi-objective framework is proposed to derive out allocated smart metering placement. To this end, fault current matrix is calculated based on the system impedance measurements. The proposed method is implemented on some distribution test system and optimal number of smart meters is allocated. The simulation results through some sensitivity assessments appropriately verify the effectiveness of the optimization procedure.
