Sustainable universities are complex systems and play a crucial role as leaders in creating a sustainable future. There are several ways that universities can be involved in sustainable development include management, planning, education, research, design, new construction, transportation, community service, operations, and development. In the recent decade, many universities in Iran have taken steps to improve their environmental performance and become more sustainable. Currently, 22 Iranian universities are on the Green Metric sustainability ranking. Universities of Zanjan, Kashan, Guilan and, Isfahan are among the top universities of UI GreenMetric world university ranking.
