A simple and convenient method has been reported for the one-pot synthesis of NH- and NR-phthalimide derivatives from the reaction of phthalic anhydride derivatives with potassium cyanate, sodium thiocyanate, phenyl and ethyl isocyanate and isothiocyanate in PEG or TBAC as green solvents.
