Thirty isolates lactic acid bacteria were obtained from the intestines of the silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) in Gheshlaghdam Lake. The isolates were identified according to their morphological, cultural, physiological and biochemical characteristics. All isolates were Gram-positive, non motile, catalase-negative bacilli that did not produce gas from glucose. Growth at 15oC was positive and it was negative at 45 oC. The results of the carbohydrate fermentation tests were positive reactions for most sugars. H and L test was positive in O/F medium. Morphological and biological test were showed these isolates very similar to Lactobacillus plantarum sp.
