Purpose: The present research aims at the significance of media literacy, different types of readers, and critical reading of social media and network messages. Methodology: As a qualitative research, it made use of theories of readings, different types of readers and Critical discourse analysis to critically analyze the content of a Telegram message sent to colleagues in the Faculty of Literature and Foreign Languages at University of Kurdistan. Findings: The results showed that the cultivation of capability of critically reading the social media messages could contribute to the increase of users' awareness and differentiation between a huge number of messages. Originality/Value: Today's life is a media-saturated life. Due to the formidable content production in social Media and virtual networks, no country can sieve data and information for the good of its own citizens. Therefore, empowering the net citizens themselves through critical reading skills might be of much help and importance.
