The efficient oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides and the oxidative coupling of thiols to disulfides was per- formed electrochemically in the presence of DDQ as an electrocatalyst. The electrochemical reactions were conducted in a mixture of water and acetonitrile as solvent under constant potential (0.6 V vs Ag/AgCl) for regeneration of DDQ at room temperature and the products were selectively produced in good to high yields. The electrocatalytic properties of the applied electrocatalyst for the oxidation of sub- strates and the proposed electrocatalytic mechanism were investigated by the cyclic voltammetry (CV) technique. The proposed electrochemical regeneration of DDQ can be developed for the synthesis of dif- ferent organic compounds in a single operation under mild conditions
