The 1H and 13C NMR spectra of 3,4-dibenzoyl-5-(benzylamino)-7,7- dimethyl cycloocta-2,4-diene-1-one and dimethyl 3-(benzylamino)-5,5- dimethyl 7-oxocycloocta-2,8-diene-1,2-dicarboxylate, at room temperatur, are consistent with slow ring inversion. The energy barriers for ring inversion in these compounds were determined by dynamic NMR spectroscopy to be 95+,- 2 and 88 +,- 2 kJ mol-1, respectively
