Type JournalPaper
Keywords FRAGILITY FUNCTION , ELECTRIC POWER SUBSTATION , FUNCTIONALITY , ELEMENT, EQUIPMENTS
Abstract A comprehensive method to evaluate the seismic reliability of electric power substations is presented. The method provides knowledge on seismic capacity and probability of structural failure of main components in the Medium Voltage (230KV) and Low Voltage (63KV) Substations. With the proposed methodology, seismic capacities of the main facilities are determined on basis of finite element method (FEM). Main transformer, current transformer (CT), live tank circuit breaker (CB), disconnecting switch (DS) and bus bar support system are completely modeled by FEM. Modal and time history analyses are carried out to obtain seismic capacity and behavior of the facilities. Fragility curves are prepared based on seismic individual responses for each facility in three levels of damage; minor, moderate and severe. Facilities for each line (phase) of power in the substation are series, respect to this arrangement fragility function of the substation are combination of functionality by element equipments. Results are compared with the actual damage data of power substation facilities during the past earthquakes.
