Title Effects of drought on vegetative cover changes: Investigating spatiotemporal patterns
Type Book
Keywords Drought, Land cover, spatiotemporal
Abstract Land use/land cover dynamics is an important landscape process capable of altering the fluxes of water, sediment, contaminants, and energy. This study evaluated the response of natural vegetation cover to drought by correlating two drought indices (SPI and RDI) with four indicators of vegetation indices from MODIS imagery records (EVI, NDVI, RVI, and DVI). Natural vegetation cover was affected by drought, and we suggest to understand the variations in natural cover and biomass before the drought occurrence. We found that in the Sari region, the response of vegetation to drought occurred with a 1-month lag time (maximum pixel by pixel correlation between NDVI and SPI was 0.78).
