Magnetic nanoparticles or nanocomposites are considered as ideal supports for the heterogenization of homogeneous catalysts since they efficiently disperse catalytic active sites in the reaction medium. More important, magnetic separation renders the recovery of catalysts from liquid-phase reactions much easier and more effective than conventional catalyst separation methods such as liquid–liquid, solid–liquid, filtration and centrifugation [1-2]. In continuation of our studies on environmentally benign chemical processes [3], herein, we report magnetic nanoparticle-supported DABCO-Tribromide (MNPs-DABCO-Tribromide) as a novel organic-inorganic hybrid heterogeneous catalyst, is readily prepared by a concise rout from inexpensive commercially available starting material using standard laboratory techniques and characterized by XRD, EDX, FT-IR, TGA and SEM. The catalytic activity and recyclability of MNPs-DABCO-Tribromide is investigated for the protection/deprotection of hydroxyl group as THP-ether and TMS-ether.
