Abstract

During the last several decades the forest lands have suffered widespread disintegration as a result of ecological ravages have been rampant. In order that life support system can survive we must protect the environment and its green cover. Nowadays to extent of forest and plantation of around of cities, afforestation and reforestation are considerate in most of countries. It is clear that afforestation in low forest cover countries (LFCC) like IRAN (Forest land is less than 7% of total area) is more important. Afforestation and reforestation programs may fail if many technical details regarding planting site, soil, precipitation, species and microclimate is not fully known to the men engaged in tree planting. Hasan Abad forest park with an area about 150 ha is located on eastern slope of Abidar Mountain in Sanandaj. Some species such as Fraxinus rotundifolia, Robinia peseudoacacia, Pinus nigra, Pinus eldarica, Cupressus arizonica, Biota orientalis, and Celtis tournefortii are already planted in the park. In order to select the best species for afforestation in the park some quantitative, qualitative and physiological characteristics of the existing trees were studied. Line sampling method was used to gather the data for forest inventory. Completely Randomized experiment design applying one way ANOVA and Duncan test was selected for data analysis using SPSS and Excel software. The Results showed that the conifer species had the better status in compare to broad leave species considering most quantitative characteristics such as diameter, height and survive. From point of these parameters Pinus nigra was the best. Between studied species Cupressus arizonica was the best tolerant species considering resistance to winter and late frost. Considering physiological parameters like N, P, Proline and chlorophyll there are significant different between studied species. The broad leave species had better condition compared to conifers regarding physiological properties. Betwe
