Abstract

Transition metal complexes have recently emerged as some of the most promising materials used especially in the field of homogenous and heterogeneous catalysis including photo-catalysis and electro-catalysis [1].Carbon nanotubes are one of the most important nanostructure materials, which is promising as immobilization substances because of their significant mechanical strength, high electrical conductivity, high surface area and good chemical stability [2]. In the case on hand, an efficient method for electro-catalytic oxidation of 2-mercaptoethanol and ascorbic acid were reported on surface of a modified glassy carbon electrode by multi-walled carbon nanotube in combination with some new manganese Schiff base complexes [3]. Electro catalytic reactions were run in aqueous media in potential range -200- 700 mV in present potassium chloride as supporting electrolyte using three electrode cyclic votammogram system. Upon addition of analyte to the reaction media, in addition to change of reduction and/or oxidation potentials to lower potentials, peak currents were increase. Peak current have linear relation either analyte concentration. Therefore, rate of electron transfer step would be faster [4]. Results show that the GC-MWCNT-Mn Schiff base complex electrode exhibits a good electro catalytic activity towards the oxidation of bioinorganic materials such as mentioned analytes.
