Abstract

Rotating circular cylindrical shells are popular mathematical models for many industrial centrifuges. Coriolis and centrifugal accelerations affect dynamic behavior of these structures, considerably. Up to now, many articles have been published in the literature on this subject and different mathematical models have been developed to account for body inertia forces and corresponding initial static deformations. A survey shows that a part of geometrical stiffness developed by initial deformations is neglected in mathematical models or numerical data published previously. Here in, governing equations of the system are extracted using La-grange method and numerical data are provided to study the effect of the neglected part on system dynamic behavior. Numerical simulations indicate in some vibrating modes and for the case of relatively high rotational speeds, the natural frequencies obtained by the mentioned methods show significant differences.
