Abstract

Increasing the level of penetration of distributed generation units and power electronic devices adds more complexity and variability to the dynamic behavior of microgrids. For such systems, the study of transient modeling and stability is essential. One of the main disadvantages of most studies on microgrid modeling is their excessive attention to the steady state period and inattention to the performance of the microgrid during the transitional period. In most of the research works, the behavior of different microgrid loads has not been studied. One of the mechanisms of power system stability studies is the application of state space modeling. These studies include developing state spatial models of various components of the energy system and then linearizing them around an equilibrium point. In this article, a comprehensive method for modeling island microgrids with dynamic and static loads is presented. The basic step of the proposed method is the transformation to a model based on dq0. To find a complete and accurate island inverter-based microgrid model, the generation, grid and load sub-modules must be modeled on the local dq reference and then transferred to a common reference. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed modeling approach for transient stability studies.
