Abstract

Abstract: Despite post revolution movements to reduce the gap between educational opportunities for boys and girls in Iran, but after two decades still there are several girls in the country whom are unable to continue their schooling beyond primary education. This issue in rural area and because of some social, cultural, structural and administrative and economic reasons is much more problematic. For example while about 10% of female students in urban areas are unable to go to middle school, this rises to above 40% percent among those who live in countryside areas (Ministry of Ed. 2001). Golnar (1996) has shown some similarity between the country’s situation with major countries in Middle East and North Africa. This research by analyzing the view of 250 females students and 40 teachers teaching at middle and secondary schools, aims to examine the role and effect of socio-cultural factors on the female low attendance in upper stage of general schooling. The initial results show that it is possible to ease some dimension of closed cultural environments when they react to the girls’ participation . The empirical research indicate the role of several related factors in this circumstances which has to be reconsidered . Keywords:
