Making risk analyses during the design process economises the time and cost of the design and increases safety in industrial systems. In this paper we developed and applied a method that can be used through the design process to provide a productivity/safety perception simultaneously. We defined the risk entities (danger zones, risks, dangerous events, barriers and targets) in a hierarchical structure. These entities can be associated with products and resources through the production process. To examine this model we used DELMIA (a computer application that is used to design the industrial systems) by embedding a special toolbox in its platform. This model is used to simulate the production activities and to evaluate the operator safety in a supposed industrial plan.
