Abstract

A new magnetic nanocatalyst was synthesized by immobilization of vanadium on ferromagnetic nanoparticles that coated by tryptophan. This heterogeneous catalyst was characterized by some methods such as: scanning electron microscopy (SEM), inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and transmission electron microscope (TEM). Various magnetic nano particle catalysts have been widely employed for promoting different organic reactions. Oxidation of sulfides are very important in organic chemistry. In this study, after characterization of the vanadium nanocatalyst, the wider applicability of the catalyst was tested for oxidation of a variety of substituted sulfides to sulfoxides. All of the processes were leads to high yields and appropriate times. The new magnetic nanocatalyst is environmentally safe, inexpensive materials, highly active, thermal and chemical stabilities. Also, the synthesized magnetic nano particle can be readily separated by magnetic decantation. They could be reused 5 times with the least catalytic activity reduction
