A novel, efficient and magnetically reusable nanocatalyst was synthesized by anchoring Co onto the surface of CoFe2O4 nanoparticles coated with gelatin. The efficiency and catalytic activity of CoFe2O4@gelatin-Co as a recoverable hetrogenuse nanocatalyst was investigated in the presence of NH2OH•HCl to synthesis a variety of aldoxime derivatives from corresponding aldehydes under eco-friendly conditions. The reactions were accomplished in H2O within 1 to 5 min at room temperature to afford oxime products in high to excellent yields. This protocol offers some advanteges such as short reaction times, convenient and high conversion of products, green reaction conditions, simple work-up mehod and elimination of side products. A major benefit of this organomagnetic catalyst is easy separation from the reaction mixture by an external magnetic field and reused several concecutive times without drastic loss of its activity. The heterogeneous nanocatalyst CoFe2O4@gelatin-Co was identified by SEM, EDX, TGA, XRD, VSM, ICP-OES, and FT-IR spectroscopy.
