A new methylene blue molecularly imprinted polymer (MB-MIP) with wooden based was synthesized for removal of MB as a template, methacrylic acid (MAA), functionalized wood flour (FWF), ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA), 2,2′-azobis(isobutyronitrile) (AIBN) and acetonitrile as monomer, axillary monomer, cross-linker, initiator and porogenrespectively, were used for prepared of MIP by radical polymerization1-2. WF is a suitable natural based for synthesis of MIP with increased adsorption for MB removal from aqueous solutions. The synthesized imprinted polymer has good chemical and physical stability, large relative selectivity coefficients, high percentages of extraction efficiency for the targeted molecule MB, and the mean repeating utilization efficiency reach more than 95 % without major change in its properties. MB-MIP was characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), and ultraviolet-visible (UV–Vis) spectrophotometers, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) techniques. The effect of different parameters such as pH, time and concentration of methylene blue, selectivity and reusability of the MB-MIP were evaluated. The experimental data were analyzed by using pseudo-first-kinetic, pseudo-second-kinetic and particle diffusion models.
